Cheryl Mahaffy


Cheryl Mahaffy launched the freelance business Words that Sing in 1996 with the goal of writing about things that matter. Since then, her work has appeared in numerous magazines and several books, including Edmonton Book of Everything and the anthologies Big Enough Dreams, Edmonton on Location and Outside of Ordinary. Coauthor of Agora Borealis: Engaging in Sustainable Architecture, she also wrote It’s Amazing, the history of Edmonton’s equipment bank for kids. Holding an MA in journalism from Indiana University, Cheryl also writes for a broad range of clients on topics ranging from social justice to healthy living, sustainable design, community development and heritage. Originally from the United States, she moved to Edmonton in 1981 and lives in the Highlands community with husband Peter – and with Purks, the cat left behind when their three children flew the nest.
